Whether you get there by kayaking, walking or riding makes no difference, the goal is still the same. The tours listed on this page are designed to teach guests about the different ecosystems in our area. They are all lead by professional biologists/naturalists. ENJOY!

Deep Creek Conservation Area Kayak Tour

Difficulty level: Easy
Prerequisite: None

Picture yourself in a kayak gliding gently through glassy black water under a beautiful green hardwood canopy. This is the scene when you paddle Deep Creek. This journey through one of the St. Johns County's most beautiful swamps is sure to be a highlight. The Deep Creek Conservation Area is a 3,700 acre refuge along the St. Johns River that is only accessible by boat. We'll paddle stable double and single touring kayaks as we learn about what this swamp has to offer. This area is known to host whitetail deer, black bears, wild pigs, wild turkeys, eagles, osprey and other water dependent birds. In addition, you will experience the sights and smells of a true Florida cypress swamp complete with an abundance of native freshwater plant species.

The tour will be led by Brad Miller, a Florida native who is no stranger to the St. Johns River. While growing up, he spent countless hours exploring its waters. Now, as a professional kayak guide, his goal is to educate the public about the need to preserve our precious resources.

Also on the tour will be a St. Johns Riverkeeper representative who will inform the group of current issues surrounding this area of the St. Johns River.

Space is limited to the first twelve registrants, so sign up now! 50% of all fees are donated to the St. Johns Riverkeeper. No experience necessary!

Trout Creek/Six Mile Creek Kayak Tour

Difficulty level: Moderate
Prerequisite: None

Beautiful cypress trees and osprey replace skyscrapers and pigeons on this section of the St. Johns River. It's in this area that Trout Creek and Six Mile Creek converge to create a large influx of fresh water for the St. Johns. You might recognize Trout Creek as home to longtime resident Pacetti's Fishcamp and Six Mile Creek as home to the famous Outback Crab Shack. Aside from their well known inhabitants, these creeks also offer many classic, old-Florida backwater scenes. Come see for yourself what makes these creeks so special and worth protecting.

During the tour, you will see many backwater regulars such as the Florida elm and bald cypress trees, redbelly turtles, little blue herons, osprey, etc. There will be many great photo opportunities, so bring your camera. Then after exploring these diverse ecosystems for a while, we'll retreat to the Outback Crab Shack for some cold drinks and a delicious meal (not included in tour price).

The tour will be led by Brad Miller, owner of Coastal Outdoor Center. COC's mission is to provide quality outdoor experiences without adversely effecting the environment. One objective is to maintain small group sizes in an effort to minimize that impact, as well as enhance the experience for the guests.

Also on the tour will be a St. Johns Riverkeeper representative who will inform the group of current issues surrounding this area of the St. Johns River.
